Motherland Monument

Lavrska Street 27, Kyiv
The metal statue weighing about 450 tonnes is 62 m high and stands on a 40 m pedestal (102 m in total); in her right hand she holds a sword weighing about 9 tonnes, and in her left - a shield. Until 2023 the shield bore the Soviet emblem; since August 2023 it has borne the Ukrainian trident. L. Brezhnev opened the monument in 1981. Here is the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War. In the Memorial Hall there are hundreds of funeral letters to the dead soldiers on display. Every year on Victory Day the Fire of Glory is lit here.
