FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Breskul and how tall is it?

This is a peak 1911 meters high in the Chornohora massif, with a rounded dome-shaped top. There are rocky screes on the northern slopes, so look carefully under your feet.

Where exactly is Breskul?

The mountain stands on the border of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions and is the nearest neighbor of Hoverla. That is, passing to the highest point of Ukraine, you will almost certainly touch Breskul.

How to get there?

Two marked red routes pass through the peak - to Hoverla and to Pozhizhevska. Allow about an hour for each transition in either direction.

What is interesting to see?

On the south-western side lies a small Breskul lake, and the slopes preserve traces of ancient glaciation - glacial cirque cauldrons. All this among alpine meadows with herbs and flowers.

Where did the name come from?

Probably from the Hutsul word with the meaning "swollen", "bloated" - a hint of the same rounded shape of the dome. Hutsuls did not give names to the wind.
