Atlas Corporation Studios
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is the Atlas film studio and where is it?
This is one of the largest film studios in the world by area, operating in the open air 5 km west of the Moroccan city of Ouarzazate. It was founded in 1983 by businessman Mohamed Belgmi.
Why did the filmmakers choose this particular corner of Morocco?
Here the climate is stable and it is almost always sunny, and the surrounding landscapes - desert and mountains - easily transform into anything from ancient Rome to fantasy worlds.
What famous films were filmed here?
The list is serious: "Gladiator", "Kingdom of Heaven", "The Mummy" and "Aladdin" (2019). From the series - "Game of Thrones", "Vikings" and "Prison Break".
Can a tourist get there?
You can, and this is one of the main entertainments in Ouarzazate. Many sets are left in place after filming, so the studio is guided on tours just among real cinema buildings.
What interesting things will you see on the excursion?
Large-scale sets from various films have been preserved - you can walk where gladiators once ran or armies from blockbusters stood, and feel how a great movie is actually made.
