How to melt water from snow

In order to melt water from snow, you need very little: snow, dishes, a fire source and free labor. We fill the dishes with snow and tamp it down more tightly. We put the dishes on the fire and... The snow doesn't melt! It slowly gets wet, darkens, but is in no hurry to melt - there is too much air in the snow. To somehow help the process, we compact the snow even more with a spoon. The first moisture will be completely absorbed by the snow, but a little more time will pass and water will splash into the pot. We have already done the hardest part. Now awaits us... the most tedious part.

Little by little add snow to the pot. As soon as it dissolves, scoop some water into the bottle. We maintain a constant water level in the pot - about half. If there is not enough water, the thrown snow will absorb it all and will slowly drown. If there is a lot of water, excess fuel will be used to heat it. When there is enough water, you can move on to using it - cooking.

Now for some little tricks.
It is better to heat water for breakfast in the evening so as not to waste precious time in the morning. So that the heated water does not
frozen in bottles, you can hide it in sleeping bags.

If you heat snow on a burner or stove in the vestibule of a tent, then you can immediately make a small ammunition supply in the vestibule - heap a bunch of loose snow here. Then you can throw it into the cauldron while lying in a tent, in a warm sleeping bag.

If you heat snow over a fire, be sure to cover the boiler with a lid. Otherwise the water will taste like smoke.
