Yosemite National Park
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Yosemite and where to find it?
This is a national park in California, on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada range. More than three thousand square kilometers of granite rocks, waterfalls and forest - about 89% of the territory remains wilderness.
What are the main stars here among the rocks and waterfalls?
The granite wall of El Capitan rises 2307 m above sea level, the Half Dome dome rises 1450 m above the valley floor. And the Yosemite waterfall with its 782 meters is the highest in North America.
When is the best time to go?
Spring and early summer - then the routes are open, and the waterfalls are at full capacity from the melting snow. Beautiful in summer, but crowded.
What to see besides rocks?
Yosemite Valley, Mariposa groves with sequoiadendrons - the most massive trees on the planet. There are three such groves in the park, and 80 species of mammals and almost 200 species of birds live here.
Has Yosemite been protected for a long time?
Yes, since the 19th century: federal protection of the territory was formalized in 1864, and Yosemite received the status of a national park in 1890.
