How to get to the top?
The easiest way starts from the resort of Borovets, 10 km to the south. The cable car will take you to Yastrebets at 2,369 m and save 2.5-3 hours of walking, then an hour to the shelter and another two to the very top.
When is the best time to go and what to expect from the weather?
The most comfortable month is August, when the peak temperature is +5.4 °C on average. The rest of the year is really cold here: the annual average is -2.9 °C, the record is -31.2 °C, and it snows about 254 days a year. A warm jacket is not superfluous even in summer.
What is interesting to see on the road or at the top?
At the very top there is a weather station, and a little lower, at 2700 m, a shelter is hidden near the Ice Lake. The Rila Mountains, where Musala lies, are full of high-altitude lakes - there is much to see on the way.
Where does this name come from and has the mountain always been called that?
From 1949 to 1962, the peak managed to be Stalin's peak, until it was returned to its old name. Today, Musala is one of the hundred national tourist attractions of Bulgaria.
